Dresscodes and Guides

One of the most frequently asked question would definitely be "What do I wear for a Zumba class?"

well just to get everyone on the right page, we came up with a few guidelines/suggestion on "what to wear for the event" so you can enjoy the 2 hours to the maximum. Of course everything we mention here is only a suggestion, you can pretty much wear anything you feel most comfortable with at the end of the day (we will not try to stop you).

The image above shows what you CAN wear for that day. Of course there are more to the ones listed above

Yes, Zumba Fitness® is a Latin inspired dance, but that does not mean you have to come in a full length dress with high heels. You are expected to dress pretty much like how you would do to any other workout.

Sports shoe is a MUST; wearing shoes that has little thread are encouraged (aerobic shoes/training shoes). Running/cross training shoes are NOT advisable because they are designed more for forward movements (which is very damaging to your knees)

Shorts and long pants are both suitable for Zumba Fitness® dance, as long as your movements are not restricted by your clothing (and make sure that you fell 100% comfortable). Track pants are advisable because they are light and dry easily.

Singlets, sports bra, tank tops, sleeveless, T-shirts are all good (and generally approved).

Do remember that the theme colour for the event is COLOURFUL! so keep your outfit as colourful and vibrant as possible. Choose a hot pink, neon green, magenta, aqua blue, orange or red, mix them all up is advisable!!!

The following pictures are examples on what NOT to wear for the charity event.

You do not want a clothing that might fall off too easily, and that is very distracting to you and everybody around you. You would spend more time worrying that your clothes might fall off instead of enjoying the event like you should, so refrain from wearing a bikini top if you can (unless you really love the attention).

Slipper is a HUGE "NO", because the rubber on the straps can cause blisters. These type of shoes are not secure to your feet which makes it dangerous to yourself and others. Slippers, Crocs, Sandals, Flip-flops and anything alike falls under this category.

Do not come in a dress because the nature of a Zumba Fitness® dance requires a huge range of movements, wearing a skirt/dress will limit your movement and it is very uncomfortable to dance in. The only form skirt that is approved is a Skort (a skirt + a short // also known as a Tennis Skirt)

High heels are NOT allowed because of the possibility of jumping movements that might occur during the class. Jumping is not advisable to be done in heels because of the damage it will cause to your knees and hips (and possibly your spine). ANY FORM OF HIGH HEELS IS NOT ALLOWED (even the one people normally use to dance Latin)

of course, don't dress like you're going to bed. Dress like you are going for a party, dress energetically!!!

it is hugely discouraged to be barefooted as well, the multiple direction movement of the dance class will cause a lot of pain in the feet. In addition to that, there is a possibility of someone stepping on your feet so you have to make sure it is properly protected.

avoid the monotonous whites and blacks (referring to the examples above).

try to avoid wearing slacks and long sleeves because the restriction of movements. The material used for these type of clothings are generally rigid, which means it is not very stretchable. (Generally) these type of clothings are not very good at absorbing sweat as well, which also means you might feel terribly uncomfortable for the entire 2 hours.

Jeans are not encouraged because of its weight, material and its poor elasticity. Jeans are normally heavy which makes it harder to dance in, the material can not absorb the sweat on your body and the rigidness of the material can limit the range of your movements as well.

anyway, these are all the guides that we can give you at the moment. If you are still confused about the types of clothing to wear, visit Zumba.com and look at their Zumbawear products and you might get some interesting ideas.

or email to the committee members and they will give you advice or two.

do remember that we need your outfits to be COLOURFUL and we want you to feel as comfortable (and safe) as possible. Appropriate clothing is VITAL because of the dangers and discomfort it could possibly cause, so do take note and caution.

as mentioned earlier, these are only guidelines, DO wear whatever makes you happy and we hope to see you real soon!

we still have slightly more than a month till the event, do spread the word. All in the name of charity. Thanks for all your love and support :)

physically it is not very different. you should know your shoe type when you buy your shoes.

technically running shoes are usually shoes with deeper patterns at the bottom, which grips very well and it is very effective for running

the thing about dancing shoes, aerobic shoes, or training shoes don't need a very strong grip

especially dancing, you want to be able to move freely as much as possible without being tied down to the ground. If your shoes have too much grip, your knees will hurt after a while.

so it is much safer to get shoes with less grip (if you're planning to dance for a long period too)
